Big Success! Three MINISO Stores Opened in Indonesia at the Same Time
On 24th February, Japanese fast fashion designer brand MINISO established in the Indonesia market successfully, making a step forward to its global expansion. It is reported that MINISO opened three stores on the same day and three of them are located in the downtown areas in capital Jakarta. The total revenue of these three stores reached 100 million Indonesian rupiah in less than three hours in soft operation. On that very day of opening, the sales volume of three stores exceeded 550 million Indonesian rupiah, breaking the sales record of local retail industry.

At the opening ceremony, MINISO held a press conference and invited Mr. Miyake Junya, the global co-founder and chief designer of MINISO, Mr. Ye Guofu, the global co-founder and CEO of MINISO, Mr. Li Minxin, the Vice President of MINISO Asian-Pacific and Indonesian super star Boy William, who has high popularity on Instagram to witness this special moment. Afterwards, Mr. Miyake Junya addressed the press conference. He extended his gratitude to the government’s support to MINISO’s establishment and people’s attention to the brand. After that, he mentioned that the settlement in Indonesia would build a solid foundation for MINISO to develop in the Southeast Asia even the developing countries in the world. Mr. Miyake Junya also illustrated the development of MINISO and its plan for the future development. He indicated that the MINISO stores in the Indonesian market will be directly managed by the headquarters. By the end of 2017, MINISO plans to open 200 stores in Indonesia, and set up more than 1000 stores in this country in three years. It is going to establish subsidiaries in Indonesia, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt and India, bringing high quality but low-price products to consumers around the world, so that people can enjoy the happiness of shopping.

The fantastic performance and simple but fashionable store design attracted a large number of customers to come and visit. Soon after its opening, the MINISO stores were crowded by customers. A wide range of high quality but low-price products dazzled consumers’ eyes. Some popular goods such as creative commodities and snacks were out of stock a few hours after the stores were opened. Even the super idol Boy William could not help grabbing a basket to select products for his family and himself. Since the stores were packed with customers, it is difficult for salesclerks to replenish goods. As a result, some products were even out of stock. In order to ensure that every consumer can successfully buy the products they like, the stores controlled the visitor numbers. It is said that although the economy of Indonesia recovers in recent years, individual consumer still experiences stress in shopping. One of the interviewees who finished purchasing at the store told the reporter that “I had never seen products of such high quality but low-price before. I wish it could have been introduced to Indonesia much earlier.” He also said that he wished there would be more MINISO stores in Indonesia, so that everyone could purchase such high quality but low-price products.

With its “high-quality, creative and low-price” products, MINISO is not only favored by the Indonesians but also popular around the world. In three years, MINISO has opened over 1,800 stores in more than 40 countries and regions, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, Singapore, China and Japan. On average world-wide it opens between 80 and 100 stores per month. MINISO hopes that the settlement in Indonesia can not only bring high quality but low-price products to local consumers, but also have the opportunity to select world-class suppliers by integrating resources in Indonesia. On one hand, MINISO can save cost by using the rich natural resources and labor force in Indonesia; on the other hand, the establishment of MINISO offers a large number of employment opportunities for local people, and improves people’s income levels.
In 2017, MINISO is ready to flourish. A new round of global expansion will inevitably bring new changes to the retail industry. Mr. Ye Guofu said that MINISO’s establishment in Indonesia may not only accelerate MINISO’s global development, but also brings happy shopping experience to local consumers and improve the current situation of local retail industry. MINISO will speed up its global expansion in the future. It is anticipated that there will be 6,000 MINISO stores opened around the world by 2020, with RMB 60 billion global revenue.
